Sophie Ward - Character Sketchbook 206

Artist Danny Roberts painting of Australian Model Sophie Ward for his Character Sketchbook

Hi, friends! How are you today?
I'm super busy with some client work
that I can't wait to show you!
I am using this crazy process that I just
came up with for the project and I am really
excited for how things are turning out so far : )
This drawing is of my friend Miss Sophie Ward and was for my Character Sketchbook. I really like the simplicity of it and feel like it captures Sophie. I hope you like it!

Two of my Favorite Sisters - Character Sketchbook

Artist Danny Roberts Drawing of Sophie Ward and Gemma Ward sisters as little kids age 5 and 7

Well, i wasn't sure if I was going to finish this drawing in time, but i finished!
So my sista from another mista, Sophie Ward, posted a while back on her blog Paper Castle Press
an article she wrote for Australian Harpers Bazaar.
In the article, there is a picture of Sophie and Gemma at age 5 & 7,
And it pretty much is the cutest picture i have ever seen.
i've been meaning to draw it for years, and finally I couldn't resist drawing it.
i miss Sophie. It was so much fun painting the sisters :)
I hope you like it.

The Guest Writer Part 2

Sophie Ward film strip the pictures are taken by artist Danny Roberts

Dearest fans, watchers, readers, lovers, writers, painters and animal
friends,

Danny and I are back in collaboration and having a marvelous time in
his studio once again. We have rummaged through cupboards to find
Italian cafetiers to make extra strong coffee, of which one sip is
enough to send the synapses skyrocketing. We have made breakfasts,
second breakfasts and brunches. We have played hide & go seek with my
painting and checked on a hummingbird's nest – all the while listening
to the background of birds chirping in the lawnmower filled air of a
sunny Californian June.

Meanwhile, I am on Twitter thanks to Danny; I am obsessed with Dorothy
Parker thanks to a second hand bookstore in Sydney; and I have
excruciatingly demented jetlag thanks to long air journeys and the
aforementioned strong coffee. My boyfriend Jon has printed out the
directions to get to Texas, we're all drinking lots of water and
debating whether peanut butter, lentil hummus and salsa is really a
good combination (hey, it's nice, okay!)

Here's to the Roberts family, who have welcomed me once again with the
most unforgivingly open, generous and unfalteringly warm arms, that I
am once again indebted to their hospitality. They are for certain a
blessing, an "American Family" who thrill to the sight of me cooking
asparagus, making crackers, and expounding the benefits of going
gluten-free. I just love being here, the perfection is almost too good
to be true, and I always miss them as soon as I'm gone.

Farewell! By the time you read this I will probably have dust in my
hair and the sun in my eyes..... Road map fluttering in the heat of
the open window. I'll be thinking of you all.

Safe journeys to everyone! I must go pack! White Rabbits are calling
me to New York!!

The Life Of My Studio

Hello my friends!
Thanks so much for all your Blog Birthday wishes; means alot!
Sorry for the lack of a post last night...
I randomly got the idea to post a video last night, at like 10:30,
and for some reason, i thought it would just take a minute to throw it together....
so needless to say, at 1 in the morning, i realized
i would probably not be up by the time the video stop rendering. hahah
Thus i am posting today.

Ok, i must warn you, it is quiet random...
I made the Video out of Random Clicks of my Studio.
So it's like close ups on paintings and me drawing, and my friends hanging out.
Oh, and also, i have the filming of the concept sketch with Miss Sophie Ward sitting posing for the painting. :)
Well, i hope you enjoy it!
Have a great day!

GOOOD MORRRnning to all!
I'm currently finishing up my second coffee this morning and excited about today!
So, first off just want to apologize for the lack of new drawings.
I've been swamped on projects trying to finish up Miss Sophie Wards and my kid's book.
Getting very excited, going to work all today on it,
but anyways, i've been feeling guilty about not posting any new drawings,
so i ended up starting a picture at 11 last night and working till 2 for you all...
but you know me, i couldn't just do a straight forward picture....
so i tried this crazy crazy experimental technique that i made up in my head a few days ago...
and well the picture turned out super crazy and weird...
I wasn't sure about posting it. haha
so i decided to post a close up of this Lookbook drawing i did for the Academy of Art for New York Fashion Week.
it's actually one of my favorites from the Lookbook,
which on a side note was like 2 years ago!
What the !? It seems like just yesterday!
Oh my, how these drawing just roll by!
Have a wonderful day! :)

Mr. Toastmeister

This Painting is from Sophie Ward and Danny Roberts childrens book it is of a cat that Smells like marmalade Toast and whose name is Ginger

Wow, oh wow!
It seems like yesterday that my friend Sophie Ward and i started planning out
how her great story, "The Ginger Marmalade Toastmeister", would look...
I remember sitting at this amazing coffee shop in Santa Monica,
huddling around rough thumbnail sketches,
and brain storming all the little subtle touches we could add to it...
aw i miss those days!

I realized it was almost a year to the day since i started working on the book.
And don't worry, i will finish it really soon.
That is my goal! i'm closing in on it.
My friend Jason Jones hand wrote all the type for it!
This picture is a little sneak peak of page 13 out of it. :)

The Siren Inspiration 3.0

Hey there, my friends. How have you been?
You all have been amazing! Such nice and great comments and questions; i've been trying to get back to comment to all of them,
so if i miss your question, try to let me know. :)
Ok, so over the last couple weeks, my good friend from the other side of the world, Miss Sophie Ward,
has been blessing me with daily new Chapters from our Collaboration Siren Art Project.
So i've been reading it over and listening to the wonderful songs my incredible friend Stacy Dupree has written for it,
and my brain has been going wild!!
It's killing me not getting to share the stories and the song with you...
but soon, i promise, soon!
i think it is going to be the most beautiful project i've ever done by far!
I may not be able to share the words or the songs yet,
so i think i will share a few pages out of the 350 page inspiration book i threw together for the project,
to give us a vision before we had one. This section is the inspiration for the second to last section of the story. :)
Hope you like it!

Road Trip of a Life Time!

Sophie Ward's feature in silver magazine

Well my friends, since mom has adopted Sophie and i guess Sophie has adopted us as her American family,
i have to share this with you all. i'm really excited for her.
The images i posted are some scans from Miss Sophie Ward's blog.
They are from an article she wrote for a magazine called Silver Magazine.
In it, she tells the story about a road trip that she and her sister did around America.
For me, it's really fun to read and see because that was around the time Sophie and i started to become good friends.
Actually, if you read the story at the end where they leave from Vegas for LAX airport,
that day they actually stopped by my house on the way,
which was the first time they had seen my studio.
And it was the first time Sophie saw, in person, the drawings i did for her book the Ginger Marmalade Toastmiester.
Go to her blog if you get a chance and enjoy!

A Little Dazed & Confused

This is Artist Danny Roberts Cover Version for London Based Dazed and Confused Magazine Cover Version Contest

Well, well, well, the day starts and we are already off working.
Good morning! How are you all doing today?
Me? I'm doing good, gearing up to get alot of things done today.
Also, been contemplating a little dilemma.
Business or Clothes?
I can't decide. For the last two years i haven't really bought any clothes, (which is kinda funny being a fashion illustrator. hah)
cause i've been investing constantly in things of a business nature,
(Art supplies, Prints, Cameras, etc.)
I think i still have one more major purchase, but alas i find my clothes starting to dissolve. hah.
Quite the Dilemma, huh?

Well anyways, the post today is the Cover i did for the Dazed and Confused Cover Versions Contest.
The contest ends today.
In the past, i've been super anxious for competitions, hoping, wishing, and praying i win.
But always, to no avail... there are so many Factors in Art Competitions that i think i will just chill, haha.
Plus, i don't really meet the requirements; i'm not under 18,
but i'm hoping they're going to forgive me being 5 years older. hahah
Well, i hope you like it.

Wow, I'm rambling, but p.s., Check out Sophie's Blog post today.
At the end of it, she posted this story she told me when she was staying here.
It's incredible! It consists of Her, Her godfather, Prince Charles, Sting, and Sir Ian McKellan in a Castle!
Come on! How could you resist that! hahaah. It's good. :)

Hope you like it. This drawing is one of my personal favorites.
It reminds me of summers when i was a little lad.
Hope you all are having an amazing week.

P.S. To those who have emailed or commented questions, i haven't forgotten about you.
i've been working non stop lately, but once i finish up, i shall respond! Sorry about that. ;)
